The start of the revival will have to wait another week as Quakers were beaten 2-0 at Victoria Road on Saturday.
Make no bones about it, the margin of defeat could have been worse, but at least Quakers kept on battling all the way through to the final whistle.
However, it is very clear, not least to manager Steve Staunton and his assistant Kevin Richardson, where the team urgently needs strengthening.
For fifteen minutes, Quakers held their own. New striker Noel Whelan showed some good touches and held the ball up well, while the defence looked comfortable against the Daggers attack.
However, it all started to go wrong in an all too familiar way. Keeper Russell Hoult comfortably held a shot by Peter Gain from the Darlo right, and he quickly threw the ball out left towards Jeff Smith. However, Danny Green intercepted, played a one-two with Paul Benson, and beat Hoult with a shot into the bottom corner.
Dagenham got another 58 seconds later to put them well in control. This time, Josh Scott was allowed to run unchallenged from the touchline to the edge of the area, where he beat Hoult with another low shot.
Hoult made up for his error by saving from Gain, but to make matters worse, the manager had to take off Whelan after 34 minutes because of a pulled hamstring, and replace him with Curtis Main.
Dagenham got into their stride again before half time. Hoult pushed a header from Scott over the bar, and Benson fired narrowly wide.
The second half was much the same story. Benson hit the bar after he cut in from the left, Hoult denied Peter Gain on three occasions, and he also bravely saved at the feet of Scott Griffiths when the full back was clean through. The big keeper also prevented Dagenham sub Tommy Tejan-Sie from adding a third, whilst he also saved from Benson and Scott again.
Darlo rallied for the last fifteen minutes when Mark Convery was pushed out wide on the right, and Jamie Devitt slotted in on the left, but they didn't create any clear cut chances.
There were very few crumbs of comfort for Darlo. There was a good debut for new left back Moses Barnett, and the back four and keeper Russell Hoult worked overtime, but Staunton and Richardson will have an even clearer picture now of what needs to be done.
Darlo team;
Hoult; Arnison, Foster, Miller, Barnett; J Smith (sub Devitt 72), G Smith, Chandler, Groves (sub Convery 57); Gall, Whelan (sub Main 34)
