A last gasp Lincoln City goal helped Darlington's fellow relegation strugglers to a much needed point. A final punt into the Quakers box from a free-kick during stoppage time saw Danny Hone score and give his side to a point. Darlington had earlier taken the lead through a Robert Burch howler but as Quakers appeared to be edging their way to another win they were dealt a harsh blow.

Quakers named an unchanged side from the one that defeated Rotherham in their previous game. Despite a slow start to the first half the home side started to get on top after the opening few minutes of the game. Whilst Lincoln had the better of the opening stages Darlington keeper Shane Redmond remained untroubled for much of that time.

Tadhg Purcell and Mor Diop both caused problems for Lincoln before Curtis Main sent a shot straight at the Imps keeper. Close to the quarter of an hour mark a deflected Mark Dempsey shot bought a save out of Burch and shortly afterwards Jeff Smith curled a free kick wide. Burch was well placed again on twenty minutes to deny Purcell. A Smith cross ended up being headed into the path of Simon Madden. He sent the ball back over for Purcell who volleyed goalwards.

Darlington though needed a slice of good fortune to take the lead. Purcell and Gareth Waite combined to set up Dempsey. He tried his luck from distance and it paid off. The ball squirmed out of Burch's grasp and trickled over the line to give Darlington the lead.

Quakers continued to battle after the break and Lincoln were frustrated on several occasions as they found themselves caught offside. The visitors did however miss a terrific chance to level the game. Substitute John-Lewsis managed to get himself into the right area but failed to connect with a Brian Gilmour free-kick as it went across the eighteen-yard box.

Darlington then introduced Josh Gray but the home side needed a fine last ditch tackle from skipper Ian Miller. Gilmour broke clear of the Quakers backline but Miller's fantastic tackle in the area halted his progress. With fifteen minutes left however Gray missed a crucial chance which would have doubled Darlington's lead. He did brilliantly to get on the end of a fine pass. Instead of shooting he cut inside his man and then scuffed his shot which the keeper easily collected.

The miss would turn out to prove costly for the hosts. As the game entered its closing stages the tackles started to fly in. The referee, from Tyne and Wear, was kept busy but there were only two yellow cards handed out during the final fifteen minutes. As the end of five minutes of added time edged closer it appeared that Quakers were set to record another win. However in a cruel twist they were denied.

During the sixth minute of added time Lincoln goalkeeper Burch, who's howler had handed Darlington the lead in the first half, played a part in pulling his team level. He sent a free-kick into a crowded penalty area. The ball somehow ended up at the feet of Hone who lobbed home amidst the dense mass of bodies. It was harsh on Darlington who had been just moments from recording back-to-back victories for the first time this season. However there were plenty of positives to look back on. Despite the dropped points Quakers are now looking far more together with each passing game.
