Two first half goals helped visitors Aldershot to all three points at the Northern Echo Arena. Darlington caretaker boss Craig Lidde recalled Paul Arnison to his side as he went for experience. Meanwhile Mark Convery found a place on the bench whilst there was no room for Noel Whelan. Gary Dempsey was recovered from his illness at the weekend to resume his place in the starting eleven.
Unfortunately though the change in management and team selection could no reverse Darlington's fortunes. Aldershot's victory moves them to within a point of the play-offs. Quakers started the game brightly with Dempsey and Gary Smith sending shots well saved. However on twenty-five minutes the away side took the lead following a foul on Anthony Straker. Scott Donnelly's free-kick was deflected against the post by Quakers defender Alan White. The ball fell to Aaron Brown who tapped home the rebound.
Darlington tried to rally though Gareth Waite. His acrobatic kick from a tight angle was well saved. However a few minutes before the half time interval Aldershot doubled their advantage. Marlon Jackson broke down the right and crossed for Marvin Morgan to score. The visitors seemed happy to soak up the pressure after the break. They tried to get forward on the break and nearly had some success when Jackson fired straight at Shane Redmond.
Quakers showed plenty of effort but chances were few and far between for the home side. Josh Gray sent a powerful effort over the bar. Darlington did eventually manage to pull a goal back five minutes from time. Substitute Curtis Main had already headed wide before Paul Arnison grabbed the consolation when he poked the ball in from close range.
