Darlington reserves finish season with defeat

Darlington reserves finished their campaign with a 1-0 home defeat to Scunthorpe United last night. Quakers' forward Gaetano Giallanza played over an hour in the defeat as built upon his appearance against Wycombe Wanderers at the weekend.

Darlington also handed starts to David Stockdale, Lewis Hardman, Wayne Clarke, Simon Todd, New Zealand born Che Bunce, Kevin Burgess, Simon Johnson, Mark McLeod, Shaun Reay and Kalu Ngoma.

Quakers were unlucky to finish the loosing side as they enjoyed several good chances to at least record a goal. The match though marked another positive step for Giallanza who played sixty-five minutes before being substituted. The Swiss striker had one of Darlington's best opportunities on fifteen minutes when he lofted a shot onto the upright.

Prior to this Giallanza, Johnson and Ngoma all missed good opportunities to give the hosts the lead. Shortly after hitting the post Darlington found themselves behind and were unable to recover despite continuing to enjoy chances. Just after the restart Giallanza fired just wide but Darlington were indebted to Stockdale. The twenty-one year old made a stunning save to deny Lev Yalcin after being set up by Colin Illey.
