Darlington manager Dave Penney would like at least another three players before the team reports for the start of pre-season training. Quakers have already made eight signings so far this summer but the manager wants another few faces in.
"Things are shaping up nicely. We've had a big turn around during the season and added another eight so far. We are getting there. I would really like another three or four to make sure we are ready. Hopefully by Monday but we'll have to wait and see," said Penney.
Quakers have added Stephen Foster, Alan White, Kevin McBride, John Brackstone, Scott Wiseman, Andy Oakes and most recently Robert Purdie and Neil Austin to their squad.
The number may well have been higher as the manager admits he has missed out on some of his targets. Despite the few disappointments whilst reassembling his new look squad Penney admits he would rather be sure that players are committed to moving to the area.
"I think the location is a big factor and that more and more players are settled and don't want to upset family," said the Darlington boss. "If they don't want to come across the country that's fine. I would rather people came and told us that instead of coming for three or four months and getting unsettled."
Whilst plenty of progress has already been made Penney is determined to press on and add more new faces to his side ahead of the club's first friendly fixture of the pre-season.
"We have agreed fees for three or four players but for one reason or another we haven't been able to get them. Some didn't want to come this far North or others wanted to fight for a place. It has been a bit frustrating in that sense but we'll keep trying," he said.
