SMITH SCORES AGAIN FOR RESERVES
Darlington's reserve team recorded another victory - their third in a row - at the expense of Sheffield Wednesday. Martin Smith continued his return to action by netting another goal whilst former Owls player Patrick Collins was also in action.
The former Sunderland man is suffered a knee injury which has ruled him out of first team action for the duration of the season so far. However with two goals in two reserve team outings he appears to be well on the road to recovery.
The game was orginally due to be played at Hillsborough however the Owls decided to move the game to Bracken Moor in order to protect the pitch. Also lining up alongside Smith and Collins was goalkeeper Andy Oakes, Xavier Barrau, Kevin Burgess and Kevin McBride.
There were only a handful of chances in this encounter however Quakers' should have been ahead during the first half when Owls centre back Sam Liversidge brought down Shaun Reay inside the area. John Brackstone stepped up but keeper Rob Burch kept it goalless at the interval with a save.
Just after half time Dave McClements drove a low shot across goal and Luke Boden almost got a touch at the far post. Quakers though took the lead after sixty-five minutes and took another three points. The goal was tapped home from close range after Burch pulled off a good save from Reay, who missed another chance just after that, and in stoppage time Liversidge narrowly failed to force home a Kenny Lunt corner.
