Darlington reserve team lost their first game in four outings as York City triumphed on Tuesday night. Mintermen midfielder Matthew Johnson netted twice for the home side as they secured a 2-1 win at the expense of Quakers.

Johnson, who came on as first half substitute for striker Richard Brodie, bagged the points for City at Kit Kat Crescent. Brodie was on the receiving end of several strong tackles early in the game and was replaced after twenty-two minutes after sustaining an ankle injury.

City enjoyed the better of the early stages and hit the cross bar from a free-kick but found themselves behind after former Hartlepool defender John Brackstone scored when City failed to clear a corner. The youngster smashed home a lose ball from just outside the six yard box leaving the York keeper with little chance.

However, York drew level in the first minute of added time at the end of the first half when Johnson finished after Darren Craddock had headed down from a corner.

Darlington proved difficult to break down during the second half and it appeared as if York would not find a way through. However in the final minute of the game the home side took all three points when Johnson rose to head in a pin point cross from close range.
