David Poole relishing new start with Quakers
David Poole has made a good first impression at Darlington where he is hoping for a fresh start following some testing times at his previous club.
Since moving from Stockport County in the summer, the pacey right-sided player has played every minute of Quakers' three unbeaten matches and was the star performer in the team's impressive display at Walsall last week.
It is a far cry from the latter part of his two-year spell at Stockport where, despite the club being promoted last season, Poole was desperate to leave.
The 23-year-old admits he did not see eye-to-eye with manager Jim Gannon, so was glad to make the move to Darlington, as have fellow former Stockport aces Adam Griffin and Adam Proudlock.
"I didn't get on with the manager at Stockport so I had to get away," said Poole while talking to the Northern Eacho.
The winger will be in the Darlington side that plays at home to Gillingham on Saturday.
"I lost confidence down there and he wasn't a nice man so I had to get away from the club.
"I wasn't enjoying my football to tell the truth, I was coming home depressed and the manager didn't help me at all.
"Dave Penney's great for me. When the gaffer signed me he said he wanted me to play out wide and that suits me because I like to run at players and get crosses in.
"I like to stay out wide, get the ball and run at defenders."
Moving to the North-East meant uprooting from his hometown of Manchester during a summer in which he also got married.
But Poole is not complaining, while both he and fellow winger Griffin have maintained their friendship from their Stockport days.
Poole said: "Moving around is part and parcel of life as a footballer really, you just accept it, but all the lads have me feel really welcome.
"I think it's helped us settle having some familiar faces around. Nobody's got me and Adam confused yet, I think that's because I'm better looking than him!"
