Darlington manager Colin Todd was pleased to see his team build on their efforts against Cheltenham Town with a 1-0 win over Lincoln City last night. The Quakers boss feels that this latest result will give his players a welcome shot of confidence after a tough opening few weeks of the campaign.
A few days earlier Todd saw his side battle back from a goal behind against Cheltenham to earn their first point in the league. Quakers continued their progression of recent games with their first win of the campaign in the Johnstones Paint Trophy. Todd was pleased with his side's performance that saw them also record a cleansheet.
Quakers turned in their best showing of the season so far against the Imps on Tuesday night. Lee Thorpe's goal after twenty-seven minutes gave Darlington a lead which they failed to relinquish.
"I thought we controlled the game during the first half. It is always difficult to control it for ninety-minutes. During the first half I thought we passed the ball as well as we have done since I arrived. We got balls into the box and we could have had more than the one goal during the first half. After the break we had to dig deep a little bit because the wide players stopped getting on the ball. Overall though it is a very good performance," said Todd afterwards.
"The movement for the goal was good. Thorpe arrived brilliantly for the goal. He could have scored another one just before that and there were other chances as well. Overall though it is a good win. A cleansheet will also give us a lot of confidence as well."
"I have been waiting to see what we were like when we are ahead. However I've seen things when we have been a goal behind. We have not wilted. The boys are gaining confidence all the time now. By getting that goal on Saturday against Cheltenham it has given us a boost. You can see that. We've gone into the game with Lincoln with that same confidence and belief. We are gradually turning the screw and we've got to keep doing it now."
