SLEEPLESS NIGHTS FOR LIDDLE

Posted on: Fri 02 Oct 2009

Craig Liddle admits he's already finding it hard to sleep, less than a week into his role as caretaker manager.

Quakers' head of youth, who takes charge of his second game for Darlington at home to Macclesfield tomorrow, says he took Tuesday's defeat against Rochdale to heart, and struggled to get to sleep.

And although Liddle says he's enjoying the experience overall, he is desperate to do well for however long he's in charge.

"I'm enjoying the experience until the new man comes in," he said. "I'm very honoured and proud to do the job, albeit it in a caretaker role.

"I take results to heart and I felt I was part of Tuesday night's result, so I was very, very disappointed.

"The chairman was very upbeat about our performance on Tuesday, but if I'm honest I wasn't. the result effected me, after having the time to sit down and to look back.

"When I was playing I hated getting beat, and after the match on Tuesday I couldn't get to sleep until well after 2 in the morning. It hurts to get beat.

"I know how much the fans want results and they're no different to me, and if we get a result on Saturday there'd be nobody happier or prouder than me.

"I still think we can do better, play at a higher tempo and eradicate one or two mistakes. If we can do that, then I'm sure we'll start getting points on the board."

Liddle says he's happy enough being caretaker manager for the time being, but admits that could change.

"If I can get a result, things change," he said. "But at the minute I'm quite happy just to do the role, to learn the invaluable experience and if someone comes in next week or next month I'd be happy to give my input."
