Steve Staunton insists his players' hard work will eventually reap rewards for the beleaguered Quakers.

The Quakers manager says he and assistant Kevin Richardson have had a good chance to introduce some of their own ideas on the training pitch this week, as well as working more on their fitness.

And although he admits it will be hard for Darlo to get out of trouble, he reckons their hard work can only pay dividends in the long-run.

"Like any club when you're in a rut, it's very hard to get out of it," said Staunton.

"Winning is a great habit, losing is a bad habit. But the only way out of it is by working hard. The harder you work, the luckier you get.

"The lads will be working their socks off like they have done, but with a little bit more discipline, a bit more team shape and as long as we get that organisation right, from the back to the front, it gives the front men more licence to go and express themselves and produce what they can produce."

Staunton knows what Shrewsbury will bring to the table on Saturday, as well.

"They're a strong, solid, 4-4-2 side," he said. "Paul Simpson has had his teams play the same way, ever since Carlisle and Preston, and Shrewsbury are no different now.

"They're strong at the back, good in the air, a big and a little man up front, so we know what to expect there, and they'll be dogged in midfield, so we know what they're all about, it's down to us to do to them what they do to us and add that little bit of quality to our play."

Meanwhile, Staunton has ruled striker Noel Whelan out for at least three-to-four weeks with the hamstring injury suffered at Dagenham last week.

"It's not as bad as first feared, but he's still going to be three or four weeks," he said.
