Darlington manager Steve Staunton says there will be no celebrations after Quakers' first league win of the season. Darlington fought back after going a goal behind against Shrewsbury Town to win 2-1 with an excellent display at the Northern Echo Arena.

Lewis Neal headed the visitors in front after just ninety-seconds but Jamie Devitt equalised before Simon Thomas, making his début on loan from Crystal Palace, put Darlington ahead after the break. The hosts had to survive some late pressure but in the end recorded their first league win of the campaign.

Staunton though is not getting carried away. It was the new manager's first home game since taking charge of the team. Whilst he was delighted with the performance shown he admits there is still a lot of hard work to be done.

"It was pleasing to see us come back after going a goal behind. The most pleasing aspect about the game wasn't just our general play but the amount of second balls we won. We played some good football at times today but the doggedness of the players was very pleasing. They all worked their socks off. You could have given man of the match to anyone of them in a white shirt today," he said on BBC Tees.

"It is a pleasing day but we know that we are still in a precarious position. This is only the second game of my reign and there is still a lot of hard work to be done. There will be no celebrations tonight. It is another match out of the way with two tough away games to come."

"I can't comment on what has gone before. I said at Leeds they gave us everything, especially in the second half. I was disappointed with what we gave down at Dagenham. Today though every single one of them was excellent. Their work rate was phenomenal. That is the standard, and they have set it themselves. From now on if they don't reach that standard they are letting themselves down."

He continued by saying: "The attitude of the lads after the goal was great. I think it took us ten minutes to get into it. But once we started to get their foot in, won a couple of tackles we started to play. I couldn't fault anyone out there today. They gave us everything but they also showed a few glimpses of what they can do with the ball as well."
