STAUNTON LEFT DISAPPOINTED
Darlington manager Steve Staunton admitted he was disappointed with his side's second half performance. Quakers failed to make the most of their chances and in the end were beaten 3-0 by Barnet. The final score though flattered the home side somewhat but Staunton felt his team didn't play as well as they did in the first half after the break.
Speaking after the game to the press Staunton was happy to see Darlington create plenty of chances but knows his side have to start keeping clean sheets. Despite the final result Quakers can be encouraged, especially given the performance in the opening forty-five minutes.
"We have to pick ourselves up now. What is disappointing is the level of performance from the first half to the second half. It is unacceptable and the lads know that," said Staunton afterwards. "They worked their socks off but in the second half we never really got going. That is disappointing but the main thing when that happens is to keep a clean sheet. Again we failed to do that and it made our lives harder. That said their keeper made a save at 0-1 which I don't think he knew much about."
"We had some great chances. The pleasing thing is we are creating some good openings. If we weren't doing that we would be in a hell of a state. I felt it was a game of two halves. I felt we dominated the first half but in the second we failed to get on top of the game. We didn't pass the ball as well as we could. Its a big learning curve for some of the players but we are all in it together."
"Because of the position we are in we have to win as many games as possible. Next week is vital now. The most important thing is not to get beat. Unless we start keeping clean sheets though we are going to be saying the same thing every week. Today we looked comfortable for forty-five minutes and then we are suddenly chasing the game. The first goal was disappointing and it changed the match."
