STAFF GRAFT TO CLEAR PITCH

Posted on: Fri 18 Dec 2009

It was all hands to the pump today as members of Darlington's staff worked all day to clear snow off the Northern Echo Arena pitch for tomorrow's Coca-Cola League Two game against Northampton Town.

Staff from corporate, conference and banqueting departments, including general manager Phil Preston, joined the groundstaff to clear the pitch in the hope of getting it cleared for tomorrow's 9.15am pitch inspection.

They worked tirelessly today, and the work continues tonight, as the Quakers hope to avoid a postponement.

"It really has been all hands to the pump," said Phil. "We only have a small workforce so it was a case of everyone chipping in to help out as we can really do without games being postponed, not least for the inconvenience it causes for fans of both teams.

"We're doing everything e possibly can to get the game on so we're keeping our fingers crossed we don't get more snow overnight."

An announcement will be made as soon after the inspection as possible.
