'WAITE OUTSTANDING' - RICHARDSON
Darlington assistant manager Kevin Richardson says that the players must build on Saturday's morale boosting win over Rotherham.
Quakers beat the promotion chasing Millers for the second time in three weeks with goals by Tadhg Purcell and Gareth Waite to put them six points behind second bottom Grimsby, a gap that could reduce even more if Quakers can beat fifth bottom Lincoln City at the Northern Echo Arena on Tuesday night.
"Saturday's performance showed that if you put in the work, commitment and endeavour, then you can get the results you need," said Richardson.
"The lads did everything they possibly could. They showed a great fighting spirit and deserved the result.
"Saturday's performance was better than the last one, because Rotherham are looking for promotion. Hopefully, this result will mean a bit of a run.
"But look what happened at Crewe after the first Rotherham game - that wasn't acceptable. The lads know what the manager is looking for against Lincoln on Tuesday. We want a similar performance and a similar result. This win will mean nothing if we don't win on Tuesday."
Tadhg Purcell and Gareth Waite were the goalscoring heores, with Purcell now top of the Darlo goalscoing charts after just four appearances.
"Tadhg has fitted in quite well at the club," said Richardson. "He's a hungry lad, loves his football and wants to do the best he can. He's don a fantastic job so far.
"Gareth has adapted quicker and better than the manager and I thought he would. I thought he was outstanding, and rightly got the Man of the Match award."
