Richie Byrne is out for tomorrow's game at home to Torquay United at the Northern Echo Arena.
The fifth-bottom Gulls make their 350-mile trip to the North-East tomorrow off the back of a 0-0 draw at home Dagenham during the week, which followed a 2-1 home win over Accrington last Saturday.
The Quakers will be hoping to make amends for their 5-0 drubbing at Plainmoor in December.
But boss Steve Staunton will be without Irish left-back Byrne, signed in January, after the 28-year-old suffered a hamstring strain at Bradford last Saturday and missed Tuesday night's defeat at home to Port Vale.
"Richie has a delicate injury but he's been working on it and we'd hope he'll be available for Northampton a week on Saturday," said assistant manager Kevin Richardson.
"Noel (Whelan) is training with us now but just taking it steady, and Mark Bower is on the field now with the physio, running drills.
"It'll be great for them to get out of the physio room. It's a slow build-up, but hopefully, by the end of the season, I'd like to see both players put on a Darlington shirt."
