The Morritt Arms Hotel has won the right to be Darlington's shirt sponsor for the 2010-11 season.

The prestigious hotel was drawn out of the hat at last night's draw, with seven companies entering the £5k competition.

The historic Morritt Hotel, at Gretna Bridge in Teesdale, is run by Barbara Johnson and her husband Peter Phillips, who are keen football fans.

"Sport is part of the lifeblood of a town and now's the time to give it our support and encouragement," said Peter.

"Supporting the club was first and foremost but winning the shirt sponsor is a real bonus for us and naturally we're delighted."

Barbara added: "We believe in supporting all things local to our area - food, charities businesses and organisations.

"We're delighted to be part of what is an essential part of Darlington's sporting landscape."

More details about the shirt sponsor deal, with pictures, will follow tomorrow.
