WE WON’T BE HELD TO RANSOM

Raj Singh has revealed he and boss Simon Davey are taking a tough stance when it comes to their transfer dealings this summer - despite already having signed six new players.

Davey has been quick out the blocks to bring in Kelvin Jack, Sam Russell, Dominik Werling, Jamie Chandler, Chris Senior and Tommy Wright during the close season.

And even though the club have hit a quiet period in the transfer market, Singh insists it isn't for the want of trying.

But he insists Darlington will not held to ransom or be forced into making any hasty decisions.

"We've lost out to another club on a couple of players but for very good reason," revealed the Quakers chairman.

"Simon knows how I do my business and he knows I won't be held to ransom by agents. We lost one player Simon was keen to bring in because his agent dropped a fee into the deal at the eleventh hour. We decided to let him go.

"At the end of the day we only want players who want to be here to play for Darlington and not just for the money, and it's good to have a manager who shares those beliefs.

"It means we're running a strong ship and in the long-term will only benefit the club. By the same token we're still assembling what we think is a strong enough squad to win the Blue Square Premier next season.

"We're also negotiating sensible deals that are in the long-term interests of the club, which has not happened in the past, so fans can be assured their club is in the right hands.

"We haven't had a lot to cheer about in the last year or so but hopefully our supporters can see we're starting to turn things around. Everything is slowly coming together so it's exciting times for the club."

Darlington fans now have until Monday to take advantage of cut-price 2010-11 season tickets.
