Brodie Millichap takes a closer look at Darlington's opponents tonight...
How are they getting on?
Hayes & Yeading find themselves second bottom in the Blue Square Premier currently after suffering a winless run which stretches to 6 games. Looking back further, they have only won once in their last 14 games a run that begins all the way back in October. That game in October was the last time they won a home game, a 2-0 victory over Forest Green Rovers. Keeping clean sheets has been something of a challenge for United so far this season and they have only managed to do this on three occasions so far. A positive for Nas Bashir's side would be, however, that they have managed to score in all of their last seven games.
Earlier on in the season:
The two sides met at the Northern Echo Darlington Arena earlier on in the season and an 88th minute Ryan Bowman goal earned Darlington a 1-1 draw after Louie Soares had earlier given the visitors the lead.
Manager:
Naseem Bashir is in his first proper managerial role at Hayes & Yeading after taking over in June this year. Bashir is a relative unknown in football circles but he will be aiming to make a big impact at United after he replaced Garry Haylock. So far this season he has struggled though and with United stuck in the relegation zone, the pressure is heating up on Bashir.
Top-scorer:
Louie Soares has netted 15 times in all competitions for United so far this season and he is likely to be the man that poses the biggest threat to the Quakers defence on Tuesday night. Soares has plenty of Football League experience behind him and he is showing the class that he undoubtedly has of late as he looks to fire United out of relegation danger.
Pele:
Worrying for Darlington, maybe, is that Hayes & Yeading have Pele playing for them. No, not that one, but this Pele still holds a distinguished career in the game. The once Southampton and West Bromwich Albion player signed for United earlier this month and has appeared in their last two games. At the age of 34 now, Pele will be hoping that his experience will prove to be a valuable asset for his new club.
