Brodie Millichap takes a closer look at Darlington's opponents tomorrow...
How are they getting on?
York City currently find themselves in fourth position in the Blue Square Premier after putting together an unbeaten run which stretches to five games. The Minstermen look a good bet for a play-off place at the end of the season, but they will be hoping that they can pick up a few more victories, something which they have been struggling to do as of late. In their last 13 games in the League, York have only won five of them, with all but one of the rest ending in stalemates. York are also much more dangerous after half-time with nine of their last 11 goals all coming in the second-half, a fact that Craig Liddle will be making sure his side make note of.
This season's meeting:
The two sides met at Bootham Crescent back in September and they played out an entertaining 2-2 draw. The Minstermen took the lead through Jamie Reed before Darlo took control of the game, when first James Walshaw equalised and then Marc Bridge-Wilkinson struck from the penalty spot to give the Quakers a half-time lead. York drew level though in the 79th minute when the prolific Jason Walker netted.
Manager:
Gary Mills took over at York City last October and a wave of good performances and results followed. Mills almost even lead the Minstermen to a play-off place but they just fell short and he will be determined to go one better this season as he looks to add another promotion to his CV. Mills had previous success at Tamworth where he lead the Lambs to promotion from the Blue Square North in the 2008-09 season, picking up the title along the way.
Top-scorer:
Jason Walker had a frustrating season last year as the fox in the box striker struggled to break into the Luton Town first team after he signed from Barrow. But now back in the North of England the 27-year-old striker has found his goal scoring touch once again and he has 15 goals to his name so far this season.
Welcome back:
Former Quaker David McGurk is recognised as one of the best defenders outside the Football League, with the centre-half constantly attracting the interest of other clubs. Despite this, he has stayed loyal to York City and he has amassed over 200 appearances for the club. If Darlington are going to enjoy any success on Saturday then they will need to get the better of McGurk.
On form:
Winger Matty Blair has hit something of a purple patch as of late and the former Kidderminster Harriers man has struck 11 goals in his last nine games, in all competitions. Comfortable on either wing, Blair will be a big threat to the Darlington defence on Saturday.
