We just don't kill teams off - Smith
Wrexham manager Denis Smith felt his side could have taken all three points from the final game of the season. Darlington managed a late equaliser to secure a 1-1 draw with the Welsh side and it left Smith bemoaning his side's inability to kill off the game. Wrexham took the lead on thirty-one minutes through Williams. Cooke equalised for Darlington however in the closing stages.
"We have had enough chances in the second half to have killed the game off and shouldn't have had to settle for a point," said Smith. "Brian Carey keeps the stats for us and he said we had seven good chances in the second period, and we were going to get chances with the way they played, slinging everyone forward. Of course, it was disappointing to let one in at that stage of the game, especially when it didn't even look like a corner."
Whilst the Wrexham manager was disappointed that his side could not hold it together at the back to claim only their fourth away game of the season he did manage to identify some bright points from the game at the TFM Darlington Arena.
"It would have been nice to finish with a win and 60 points, but we haven't and it's been an inability to keep clean sheets and to kill teams off, which has haunted us all season," said Smith. "But there were a lot of bright points and on a pitch which was shocking, Matty Done has tried to play the way he wanted to do, by running with the ball. Mike Williams has been great and his brother has come on at the end. That meant we finished with three YT lads and six in the squad, which is good for the future of the club."
