Joey Hutchinson and Brian Close expected back
Darlington pair Joey Hutchinson and Brian Close are both expected to be back in time for the new season according to manager David Hodgson. Both players have had little luck with injuries in the campaign that has just come to an end. Hutchinson has yet to kick a ball in a competitive match this year following his injury on Boxing Day at Carlisle United.
Darlington's point at Brunton Park was overshadowed by the injury to the defender who suffered a serious cruciate problem. This was the second in as many seasons after the defender missed a large part of the 2004/05 campaign. Brian Close has also not kicked a ball this year thanks to ankle problems which have needed attention at various points through the season.
Speaking on Quakers World yesterday Hodgson confirmed that he expected both to be back and that they both did not have to worry about new deals. The future of a lot of Darlington's playing staff is unclear with the retained list yet to be published. "Joey will be back without doubt for next season as will Brian Close. They both have extended contracts because they got injured whilst doing their duties for Darlington Football Club," said Hodgson yesterday morning.
