Former Darlington forward Simon Johnson is being eyed up by Coca-Cola League Two side Bradford City. The former Leeds United man spent just over two years with Quakers before his departure this summer. The twenty-four year old is now training with the Bantams and is likely to figure when the club's pre-season schedule starts.

Talking to the Telegraph & Argus Bradford boss Stuart McCall said: "He can play wide left, wide right or just in the hole. Simon's a bit different to what we've got and we're looking at him as another option as a centre forward. Even though he can look to get the ball to feet, he can also get down the sides of people."

Bradford have already swooped for Barry Conlon, another former Darlington player but McCall is now looking for a different attacking option to boost his squad ahead of the new season. Media speculation has linked current Quakers' forward Julian Joachim with a move to Grimsby Town however the Mariners have denied they are interested in the player.

"It's another one of those rumours that somebody has dreamt up. I can assure you that it isn't true. I think it is another one of those rumours that maybe comes from the docks or somewhere like that," said Grimsby boss Alan Buckley.

Elsewhere in the division Bury are resigned themselves to missing out on former Lincoln City player Simon Yeo. The thirty-three-year-old, who has twelve months left on his Chester contract, was seen as the ideal man to put pressure on Andy Bishop and Glynn Hurst in the Gigg Lane striker stakes next season. However Bury are not ready to match Chester's valuation of the player.

"Simon played for me at Lincoln and Peterborough. I spoke to his agent and was told he was available and within our budget. But there are a number of other clubs interested in him and it looks like Chester now want a transfer fee," said Bury Director of Football Keith Alexander. "We would have him on a free but not if we have to pay a fee. There are plenty of players available out there and a club like us do not need to be paying transfer fees. So, as things stand, I think that going for Simon is a non-starter for us."

Chester meanwhile have agreed a new twelve month deal with promising youngster Rob Marsh Evans. The young defender was hampered last season by a broken foot bone and only became fit towards the end of the season.

Finally Lincoln City have tied up a new deal with Ryan Amoo. The player has signed a two year deal with Lincoln. The former Aston Villa trainee started thirty-five League games for the Imps last term in what was his first full season in the Football League.

"Ryan is a fantastic player to work with and I know that he's only going to get better with time," said head coach John Schofield. "He did come across some criticism during the second half of the season but he'll be better prepared going into the new campaign having got a full year's worth of experience under his belt. He'll also be up against competition from the likes of Ryan Semple who is back in training and eager to impress."
