DARLINGTON V CHELTENHAM TOWN

Posted on: Fri 28 Aug 2009

Darlington manager Colin Todd will have to decide if he will make changes to his strike force for the fixture with Cheltenham Town this weekend. Quakers have scored just once this season. In a bid to help his team pick up their first points of the campaign Todd will have to make up his mind if changes are needed.

Quakers can continue to call on experience in the form of Dean Windass and Lee Thorpe or, with Curtis Main back in contention and David Dowson on loan from Sunderland, go for youth instead. Last week's arrival of Kevin Gall adds further options for Darlington in the striking department as well. Elsewhere skipper Steve Foster will be pushing for a return to first team duties. The defender has been rested for the last two games but could return.

Whilst Darlington can pick from a fully fit forward line they have a few problems elsewhere. Chris Lumsdon will be absent with a back injury whilst Paul Arnison (hamstring) will continue to be missing. Josh Gray though has returned to training but the fixture with Cheltenham will be too early for him.

Visitors Cheltenham have made a lively start to the season. The Robins got off the mark with a opening day victory against Grimsby Town and secured three points at Rochdale. They were also involved in a thrilling match against Bradford City last weekend. Despite hitting the net four times in their game with the Bantams they still lost 5-4.

Ahead of their trip to the North East Cheltenham have made a couple of additions to their squad. Bristol City midfielder Frankie Artus is set to return to the club for a second loan spell after being with the Robins last season. He arrived towards the end of the 2008/09 campaign and scored three times in nine appearances for the Robins.

Meanwhile defender Ajet Shehu has joined the club. He started his career at Tottenham and went on to spend three years with Spurs. He made appearances for the academy, youth team and reserves but was released at the end of last season. He has joined Cheltenham on a non-contract basis.

Darlington's game at home to Cheltenham kicks off at 3pm. Early bird tickets are still available on Friday priced at £16 for adults, £10 for over-65s, £6 for under-16s, £3 for under-10s and £40 for a family ticket (two adults, two children). Matchday tickets are priced at £18 for adults, £12 for over-65s, £8 for under-16s, £5 for under-10s and £45 for families.
