MORECAMBE V DARLINGTON

Posted on: Fri 12 Feb 2010

Darlington manager Steve Staunton could be set to name an unchanged side for the fourth successive games when the team makes the short trip across the Pennines to Morecambe.

The manager will have that option if a couple of players recover from minor knocks picked up in the draw with Lincoln - the first draw since the manager arrived at the club.

But if he feels the need to make a couple of changes he can do so knowing that he has strength in depth in all departments.

"We are going there looking to win," he said. "We know what we have to do. We are unbeaten in two games, and we are going there to try and win and get a good run going."

The squad is clearly growing in confidence after two wins and a draw in the last five games have almost doubled the season's points tally.

And they have started scoring more goals and conceding fewer. But Staunton knows that he side will have to be on the ball if they are to pick up a second away win of the campaign, and a second in three trips having won at Rotherham before losing at Crewe.

He said: "Sammy McIlroy's side will work hard, close us down, and battle to play their football at the right times.

"But we are a more confident side now. We have good talkers and good characters on the pitch and in the dressing room. They want to prove things to themselves and what they have already proved is that they are capable of beating good side.

"The club is making progress on the pitch and behind the scenes, and there are better times ahead."
