Ryan ValentineQuakers take on Grimsby Town this weekend as the home side look to build on their good result at Stockport County last Saturday. Russell Slade's men will undoubtedly provide a sterner test than the Hatters as the Humberside club are enjoying their best season since suffering relegation to League two. Whilst Quakers will run out to this fixture on the back of a good 3-0 win Grimsby suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Bristol Rovers in their last game.

The result was a disappointment to Mariners assistant manager Graham Rodger especially since Bristol Rovers had a number of former Grimsby players lend a hand in the defeat. Stuart Campbell and Jamie Forrester were both involved whilst helping out former Grimsby Town boss Lennie Lawrence was another ex-Mariner Paul Trollope.

"It was a very big game for us especially after doing so well in the second half against Rochdale," said the Grimsby assistant manager Graham Rodger. "With a few ex-Mariners players coming back and an ex-manager coming as well we felt that we would win that game. Unfortunately the performance on the day wasn't good enough and it was a hammer blow for us not to pick up at least a point. I suppose I have to give them some credit for coming here and doing nothing in the game but taking the points. We felt it was three points lost."

Grimsby Town will be making their second trip to the North East in the space of a week. The game at the TFM Arena ended in a goalless draw and Rodger admits he will enjoy going back to Darlington's home ground. The Grimsby assistant manager still appears to be a little annoyed by how Quakers took three points earlier in the season - as a result Grimsby players were kept back to watch the game again. Since then they have improved a lot.

"It's a lovely stadium, the pitch is nice but a bit heavy at the moment. It's a good place to play. They've been a little bit hit and miss, they came here and stole three points off us earlier in the season with their only shot on target which I miffed about having done it to us a year before at their place. Their last game at Stockport they came away 3-0 winners. They've changed their system and shape and got a very good result out of it. The one thing we do know with Dave Hodgson's side they will try and play. They'll be quite bright and alert so we have to be mindful of that," said Rodger.

Quakers will have to make at least one change for this game as Ryan Valentine is ruled out due to suspension. Meanwhile Grimsby Town player Jean-Paul Kamudimba Kalala could be set to return to action depending on what reports you want to believe. The Congolese international missed the visitors last game because of a calf strain, but some feel that he will make his return against Darlington whilst others say he is a major doubt. Remember Quakers World will bring you full commentary for the match and post match interviews as well.
