Darlington v Accrington Stanley
Story by Kevin Luff - 19th February 2007
Darlington will look to continue their excellent run of form with the visit of Accrington Stanley tomorrow night. Quakers' point at Swindon Town extended the club's unbeaten run to eight games in a row.
The 1-1 draw at the County Ground keeps Darlington play-off ambitions alive but to have any serious hope of mounting a bid for seventh place (now surely the only realistic place available to Quakers and others around them) they need a good points haul from their next two games.
Quakers' next two opponents are both scrapping to avoid relegation. Accrington currently sit in twentieth place in League Two just two points off the relegation zone whilst Torquay are bottom.
The games, on paper at least, should represent chances for Darlington to record maximum points. However both sides are battling for their lives and will offer Darlington a real challenge just as their last game against Swindon Town was. Whilst the point at the County Ground was more than useful it would become far more positive if it was followed by good results over Stanley and the Gulls.
Visitors Accrington have proved themselves capable of getting results away from home in recent weeks. Since the turn of the year Accrington have lost just one match on their travels. This defeat came at Boston United but Stanley have picked up seven points from a possible twelve. This record should be more than enough warning for Dave Penney's side.
Accrington could be boosted by the return of a few players. Peter Cavanagh and Danny Ventre could both figure in the game whilst goalkeeper Ian Dunbavin could return after a knee problem. However defender Andrew Tretton and striker Leighton McGivern appear set to miss out with a knee and ankle injury respectively.
