Gregg Blundell joined Darlington ahead of the close of the January 2007 transfer window. Blundell joined Quakers from League Two side Chester City. He was bought to City in the summer of 2005 for a record six figure fee. Blundell started his career at Tranmere as a trainee before being released. He joined non-league side Northwich Victoria in January 2001 and went on to score forty goals.

His time with the Vics lasted just over two years before he joined Doncaster Rovers, managed by Darlington boss Dave Penney, for £25,000. He played only a small part as Doncaster were promoted to the Football League but he finished the season with twenty-goals - nineteen of which came before his switch to Doncaster in March 2003.

The following campaign saw Doncaster achieve promotion for a second straight season with Blundell playing an important part netting twenty-times. The forward proved himself capable of netting a division higher as he finished the 2004/05 campaign with eleven goals - one of which came against his former club Tranmere - before joining Chester in the summer of 2005 where he went on to score fifteen goals.
