John Brackstone signed for Darlington after being released by local rivals Hartlepool United in the summer ahead of the 2007/08 campaign. The left back is a product of Hartlepool's youth team and played regularly for Pool's reserves but broke his leg during the 2002/2003 season.
However he recovered and impressed the then manager Neale Cooper enough to give him an opportunity in the first team and Brackstone made his Hartlepool debut against Blackpool in 2003. However the 2006/07 campaign saw Brackstone unable to break into a successful Hartlepool side and he was allowed to leave at the end of the season and joined Quakers to offer further competition for places. Brackstone is a tough-tackling defender who likes to get stuck in and is a threat from set-pieces.
