Darlington signed Tadhg Purcell in January 2010. The forward, who can also play on the right wing, started his professional career at University College Dublin AFC. He figured several times for UCD in the League of Ireland during the 2004 season. A spell with Kilkenny City followed in 2005 before he joined Shamrock Rocks in 2006. He extended his stay with a new contracin July 2007 before departing Ireland in 2010 to sign for Darlington midway through the 2009/10 season.
